FREE 3rd Grade ELA Warm-Ups

The goal in any classroom is always to teach in a fun and interactive way that excites and engages students. This is no different when it comes to teaching all things literacy. ELA subjects are an important foundation we lay for young students, that they will carry with them forever! I like to think outside the traditional worksheets which can get monotonous and hard to keep up with (who else hates making a million copies?) One of my favorite ways to introduce and practice ELA concepts is by doing simple daily ELA  warm-ups! These ELA warm-ups help students jumpstart their day and get ready to dive into learning… plus they are so much fun! 

Fact of the Day Game as a Daily ELA Warm-Up

After years of doing things the traditional way, I found it was getting hard to keep up with all the ELA worksheets and papers. There are always a million copies to make which is time consuming and just no fun to keep track of. I wanted a way to streamline and simplify the process so it was less overwhelming for myself and my students.

I created these 180 days of ELA daily warm-ups with busy teachers in mind. These are a digital warm-up and can be projected onto a board for the whole class to complete together or done independently. I love digital activities because it means no more running off and keeping track of endless copies! 

These ELA warm-ups have students spiral review through every 3rd-grade standard. This is a fantastic way to keep concepts fresh in their mind during the school year. There are so many ELA concepts to grasp during elementary school, and this will keep students focused, engaged, and learning new skills all year long. When you go to teach a new subject, it won’t be forgotten as easily because they are constantly reviewing. I love daily warm-ups because they really help with comprehension of subjects and allow students to retain so much more information!

The thing teachers love most about these ELA daily warm-ups is how easy they are to prep. You can use them for teaching in the classroom or while distance learning because it is all digital. They also work on any digital platform! These are also self-correcting which I love! It makes it great for when students are working on them individually. How Does it Work?

These 3rd grade daily ELA warm-ups are a fun and simple way to kick start the day and get students’ little minds up and running! These are digital warm-ups designed to be presented to the class through a platform like Google Slides or SeeSaw, but they work on any computer that has access to the internet! 

I love doing these together because I find the class discussions so important! You will find students jumping in and working together to solve the questions and after a few weeks, everyone is a pro!

The first slide features a fun Fact of the Day, but students aren’t told the answer to the fun fact… just yet!. Students will go on to answer a series of 10 ELA related questions to unlock the answer to the daily fact. If they answer the question correctly they will earn a “prize”! After they earn 10 prizes they will win the answer to the fact of the day! 

If they answer incorrectly, it takes them back to redo the question until they properly solve it. These are self-correcting lessons which make things so much easier! Another benefit of these warm-ups is that the question types change out each day. This allows for fresh, new learning experiences and keeps students engaged! Plus, they will spiral through every 3rd-grade standard, you really can’t beat it!
