Graphing and Data
When it comes to trickier math concepts like graphing and data, I like to take a hands-on interactive approach! I love these foldables for teaching math concepts because they are laid out in a simple way that students can easily comprehend..plus they are so much fun! These really get young students’ fine motor skills working as well, which is super important. In this activity, students can independently practice filling out their very own graphs. Topics covered in this particular foldable include tallies, bar graphs, pictographs, line plots, and a practice page to wrap it all up. Whether you are kicking off your graphing unit or wrapping it up and need a fun review activity, this resource has it all!
Telling Time Activities
Telling time is a life skill students will carry with them forever, but teaching it can be tricky at times! Finding an engaging way to teach this concept is always key to comprehension. I have found that hands-on activities are always best when it comes to telling time. With this foldable activity, students will use those fine motor skills to cut, paste and fill in data all about telling time. Some of the concepts covered are parts of a clock, reading analog and digital clocks, AM and PM times, and time increments. The best part about these foldable activities is that they are reusable and can be used for review over and over again. Plus, students will love putting them together and will learn a ton in the process!
2nd Grade Measurement Activities
By second grade, students are ready to dive into learning all about measurement. I like to present concepts like this in a hands-on way so that it doesn’t get boring and mundane! This activity is perfect for young students because not only are they learning and practicing measurements, they are cutting, pasting, and making their own foldable as well! It is easy to assemble and as they cut out colorful squares to make a neat little foldable to hold all their measurement data! Included in the resource is the proper vocabulary, how to measure, inches/feet/yards, millimeters/centimeters/meters, comparing measurements, and a practice page. Use this in your 2nd-grade classroom as an introduction to the basic concepts of measurement or a review at the end of the unit. Students will love how fun and interactive this foldable activity is!
2D and 3D Shapes
By second grade, students are ready to level up when it comes to learning all about shapes and geometry. Shapes are generally a fun concept for students to learn because they are familiar to students and they are everywhere they look. I like to take this advantage when I am teaching this particular unit! Teaching shapes in a fun, interactive way keeps students engaged and focused which helps them comprehend the new skills. I love this foldable because it is packed with activities like 2D and 3D shapes, number of sides, number of vertices, number of faces, flat or solid, and a fun application portion. Use this in your 2nd-grade class to introduce this new shapes unit or as a wrap-up review at the end of the unit. Either way, students will love learning about shapes in this hands-on way!
Foldable Fractions Activity
Let’s talk fractions. They can be a difficult concept for little growing minds. Visualizing a whole number broken up into smaller parts is a hard skill to conquer. This foldable is geared to help break things down in a fun, interactive way that young students can easily grasp. These foldable activities elevate learning, in a hands-on way. No more boring worksheets! This foldable includes activities that teach numerator and denominator, one half and halves, one whole, one third and thirds, one fourth and fourths, and a practice page. Students will cut, paste and build their own foldable that they can reference all throughout the unit. It makes a great review activity for the end of a fractions unit as well!
Money and Coins Activity
If teaching money is an overwhelming subject in your classroom, don’t worry, I have a great solution. Most 2nd grade teachers know that the money concepts can be a difficult task to teach, that is why I love this interactive foldable. It is simple for students to create and allows them to review this concept all unit long. It includes important money concepts such as coin names, coin values, heads and tails, and a cut and glue piggy bank activity. This interactive foldable activity allows students to visualize this skill which goes way above and beyond traditional worksheets.
