FREE Class Journal Covers: Stop Tattling in the Classroom
Tattling in the classroom can drive a teacher bananas! My classroom was struggling with tattles until I introduced our whole class journal! We call it our friendship journal, and anyone in the classroom can write in it after they finish their work.
How Friendship Journals Work:
Any time a student finishes their work, they have the option to grab a Friendship Journal and use a sentence starter! As a class we talked about writing specific feedback, using our best handwriting, and including the date!
For example a student wrote, “I felt happy when I asked (name) to race me at recess, and he said yes! We had a fun time and laughed.”
This was a student who normally struggles to get any of their ideas out on paper!
At the end of the day, I take both journals and read them aloud to the class! We then clap for both the author and the rock star student! Some days, we even vote for two friends to grab a prize!
This takes maybe 3 minutes and is perfect fro when the kids are sitting at the carpet before the bell rings at the end of the day!
How Class Journals Stop Tattling:
After using friendship journals, my students started to focus and hunt for POSITIVE behaviors in the classroom, rather than behaviors they could tattle on. I saw an immediate decrease in tattles and it has continued throughout the year!
