Distance Learning Math Activities for a Younger Crowd
Mastering math skills in the early grades is crucial to our students’ success.
Digital math warm ups only take about ten minutes at the beginning of class and make for the perfect spiral review to get student’s math brains turned on and ready to go for your lesson!
I used to use paper copies and they were great and all, but I really don’t want to make a lot of copies for something students will complete in a matter of minutes before the lesson even begins.
That’s why I developed my Digital Math Spiral Reviews. They are digital files so there’s no need to write use up whiteboard space or make endless copies! (HINT: I’ve included a week for free down below!)
What’s better than that?
I’ll tell you what’s better than that – the digital math warm ups cover almost every math standard each week AND they are self-correcting!
Say what? Yes! They are designed so the students know if they get an answer wrong and then, they get a chance to correct it before moving on.
I started with 2nd grade Digital Math Spiral Review but everyone was asking for more, so I’ve added versions for 1st grade and 3rd grade too!
How does the Digital Math Warm Up work?
The digital math warm ups are designed to be completed whole group. (I know that’s not always possible with distance learning… that’s why they are self-correcting!)
They are perfect for using in the classroom or for distance learning.
Students are presented with a riddle or a joke, but they don’t get the answer until they complete 10 problems correctly.
Every time they get an answer correct, it will give them a price. If it’s incorrect, they will go back and try again!
As a class, you’ll go over each question together and reveal the answer to your joke! These are great for reinforcing and solidifying necessary math skills without cutting into actual class time.
These are designed to be a whole group activity, not an assessment. The point is to learn and grow together here, not receive a grade.
What’s inside each grade level digital math spiral review?
There are options for:
- 1st grade
- 2nd grade
- 3rd grade
- Bundle of all three grade levels (perfect for multi-age or resource teachers!)

The math questions in each of the warm ups rotate through a variety of formats to help students see different question types over the course of the year. Each question, the topic changes and may include number sense, time, geometry, place value, measurement, and any other standards in that grade level.
Warm up questions are divided into four quarters and cover all the math standards!. They are designed to get more difficult as the year progresses. You’ll get a total of 180 daily warmups for your students per grade!
You’ll also get step-by-step instructions for setting up the digital warmup materials in Google.
But, if you don’t have Google and use another platform, there are step-by-step instructions to help you set it up on other digital platforms.
