Testing Motivation for Students

I just hate how anxious some students get during state testing or district testing.  I feel like as teachers, it is our job to provide testing motivation for students.  This editable testing letter is a spin on testing treats that helps students feel motivated and relaxed on testing day.

How it works!

Before the big test, send home a letter to parents with all the information on the test. Explain when the test is, what it is used for, and provide parents with tips for helping their child be successful.  You know the usual testing tips, like getting enough sleep and eating a big healthy breakfast.
The extra part that I like to add is a piece of paper and envelope for parents to write their child a special motivational testing note that the child can open on testing day.  The note should include how proud they are, how much they love them, and anything special that will make their child smile!
Then on the morning of the test, I hand out all of the secret envelopes.  Students open them and instantly feel excited and full of smiles.  It is so special to see their reactions!  I truly feel like any little boost of confidence helps kids feel ready to show what they know on testing day!

Save yourself some time, and grab a copy of the Editable Testing Letter I have used year after year!

What if a child does not receive a letter from a parent/guardian?

There are a couple ways to handle it! You can write them a special note or you can have a previous teacher/specials teacher write them a note.  The goal is to make sure every student feels loved and motivated on the morning of the standardized test!

Do students know about their secret motivational testing envelopes prior to the test?

Yes! That’s part of the excitement! Tell your students there is a secret note waiting for them on the first day of the standardized test! Throw the word SECRET out there, and kids will go nuts! I have literally had students say they couldn’t possibly wait any longer for testing day because they just HAD to know what was in that note!

If you are interested in a blog post with more Testing Treats for Students and Testing Motivation like the FREEBIE you see below, you can check them out HERE!

The most important thing to remember is students need to feel confident, loved, and motivated on testing day! Do your best to create a positive, relaxed, and fun learning environment where students can show off all of the amazing things they learned this year!
