5 Easy Classroom Halloween Activities
Here are a few easy classroom Halloween activities that are always a major hit!
Fall is in the air!
For a teacher that means it’s time for some low prep, yet spooky ideas to keep students engaged.
Easy Classroom Halloween Activity #1: Slime Science
This is one of my students’ absolute favorite experiments to do! But then again who doesn’t love slime?
The Slime Science project is a quick way to review the scientific method and get students excited to learn!
This experiment is easy to prepare, complete, and clean up. I have done this project with paper and pencil while outside enjoying the nice weather. I have also done the project inside using google slides (while enjoying the A/C).
To get started, we used:
- Slime Science mini book
- Borax
- Glue
- Water
- Food coloring
In one container we mixed a ½ cup of gule and a ½ cup of water. In a second container we mixed 1 cup of water with 1 tsp of borax. Once the borax and water dissolved we added the glue mixture and then added food coloring.
Fun Tip: Have a few different food coloring options that your class can choose from!
After the slime was finished the class got to play with their slime!
We observed how the slime felt, looked, and moved. My students used their observation skills to discuss how the slime was formed and what made it react the way it did. At this point we reviewed the scientific method steps. My students were able to explain how we performed each step and describe how their hypothesis did or didn’t hold true. My class loved getting to make their own toy all while feeling like mad scientists!

Easy Classroom Halloween Activity #2: Spider Web Spelling
Spider Web Spelling is one of my favorite spelling activities because it is so simple to prep– Have black paper and white crayons? Prep work done!
To get started with this activity draw a spider web on the paper using a white crayon or metallic sharpie. Have your students fill in the web with their spelling words for that week. If you teach older students, then you can have them create their own spider web design. Students can use their spelling words to create their own pattern or design within the web.
This is a fun way to practice for spelling tests without students feeling like they are writing a punishment!
You could also use this for vocabulary words, phonics sounds, math problems… the possibilities are endless!
Fun Tip: Use Spider Web Spelling for fall themed centers!
I just love finding new and easy classroom Halloween activities.
Easy Classroom Halloween Activity #3: Candy Corn Math
Let’s face it, math is not always an exciting subject in our classrooms. I am always looking for a way to make numbers seem more interesting. A great way to do this is to add food! Snacking always makes Math fun!
I used Candy Corn Math as a center activity to review 2 digit addition with regrouping. This math activity is super simple and can meet your students right where they are in their math lessons. Group the candy corn in groups of tens or do simple addition and subtraction.
#4: Bat Research Activity
Here’s another super easy classroom Halloween activity!
I love this project because it can easily be sent digitally for remote learning or printed off for in-person classes. Whether you are at home or in your classroom, we all need a little fun added to our school day.
I’m serious when I say this project is low prep!
I just printed off the Bat Research Flip Flap and instructed my students on the rest! I told my students how to fold the paper and where to cut it. After that they were ready to research bats!
Each fold the kids make in the paper creates a different section that they will fill in. Your students will find facts about bats and use them to complete their bat packet.
Fun Tip: Encourage your students to color their projects then display them outside your classroom.
If you thought that sounded easy then you should know that the Google Slides version of this project requires even less prep! All you will need to do is send out the slides file to your students. They will be able to use their research to fill in the slides. My class loved the digital version of the project. They loved using their school technology for something other than watching me teach (I don’t blame them).
#5: FREE Halloween Glow Stick Gift Tag
We all love treats way more than we do tricks which is why I’m a big fan of giving out a little treat to my students each Halloween. I always pass out glow sticks.
It is important because I use the glow stick to teach my students how crucial it is to stay visible on Halloween night. I encourage everyone to wear the glow sticks as a necklace with their costume.
These free glow stick tags are what I attach to each glow stick.
My students absolutely love this!
I have kids come in the next day and tell me how they wore their glow sticks. If your school doesn’t give out treat bags or candy, don’t worry. Even If you just give your students glow sticks you will still have a happy class.
Glow sticks are so much fun on their own!
It’s a Wrap!
I love these fall projects because they break up the classroom monotony whether your students are learning from home or from their desks.
We all need some fun sprinkled in!
I’d love to know how you use these 5 easy classroom Halloween activities!
Do you have any favorite Fall projects? I’d love to hear about them!
