Easy parent holiday gift from students - Inexpensive

Easy Parent Gift from Students [Inexpensive]

It’s finally that time of year… which usually means teachers are on the hunt for an easy parent gift from students. Oh and bonus points if it’s easy and inexpensive!

Students love to give gifts to their parents and loved ones, but I used to struggle with finding a gift that would work for any holiday in the winter!

That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands and create this super easy DIY snow globe gift!

Why I Love This Easy Parent Gift from Students

This activity is great for any Kindergarten through 5th-grade classrooms! The DIY holiday craft is super low prep and will guarantee a smile. The snow globe project also includes every student because it doesn’t specifically say “Christmas” or mention any holiday at all.

It simply is a way for students to show someone they love them!

I was also able to use materials that I had at school, so it was a low-cost project as well.

DIY Parent Gift Materials

  • Blue & white paper
  • Markers
  • Pictures of each student (I took these on my phone and printed them at the color printer at school!)
  • Optional: Glitter or confetti to make the snowflakes

Here’s the exact snow globe parent gift template we used.

Easy Parent Gift from Students: Step by Step

Step 1: Fill out the Snow Globe Foldable!

To get started, students worked on the “I love you snow much foldable.” This can be more guided with younger kids or independent if you have a class of older kids.

These foldables are awesome because they are interactive but only require one page printed front to back! They also can be given to ANY loved one and don’t mention a specific holiday.

As they were making their snow foldable I started taking pictures of the kids blowing pretend snowflake kisses.

Step 2: Print Pictures of the Kids!

I then added the pictures to a word document to print.

Teacher Tip: Play around with the sizing and do a test print to see if it fits in the snow globe before you print them all! (The image above shows the sizing I used.)

I printed them at school on the color printer rather than purchasing actual prints. That saved me some money and prep time!

Step 3: Cut the Photos & Decorate Snow Globes!

Once the photos were printed we cut them out. Teachers or students can cut the pictures depending on the age of your class.

After they were cut out, we glued the pictures to make the snow globes. I used some confetti that I got at Hobby Lobby a while back to add some sparkly snow to the globes.

You can find similar confetti on Amazon here.

If you don’t want to buy confetti it’s no big deal. You can also use some glue and glitter or even markers to make the snow!

Other DIY Holiday Gift Options:

  • Hole punch the top and add a ribbon to turn it into an ornament
  • Laminate the snow globes to make them a little more sturdy
  • Add the date to the back

Easy Tip for Wrapping Your DIY Holiday Gifts:

Grab paper bags and complete a directed drawing as a whole class. We did these fun snowmen!

If you are feeling extra fancy, you can hole punch the top and tie a ribbon!

Conclusion

My class loved doing this project and they loved making a special gift for their family. You can grab a copy of the Snow Globe Project HERE. Be sure to pin this blog post to save it for later!

My students took their time and focused on what they could give, rather than what they could receive.
